Nordic Northwest’s Community Spotlights celebrate the valuable contributions, enthusiasm, and achievements of members in the Nordic community. Thank you to all of our dedicated and supportive community members!
Hao Ruan started volunteering with Nordic Northwest in 2022 and has been a program and event fixture ever since. From being a Fogelbo Docent to checking attendees in at movie screenings, running the bar for concerts, helping with set-up and take-down at festivals and events to manning the Nordic Northwest Table, Hao kindly helps whenever he has time and wherever he can.
Originally from northern China, Hao came to the US for his master’s degree at WSU Tri-Cities in 2014 and has been living in the Pacific Northwest ever since. After studying chemistry and really getting into the renewable energy, he now works for a gasification technology company where they can turn anything chemically organic into fuel gases like hydrogen and carbon monoxide.
When not at work or volunteering at Nordic Northwest, Hao likes going hiking and all kinds of outdoor activities, aviation and landscape photography. Oh, and Norwegian crispbread with kaviar, ideally enjoyed on the Lofoten Islands – a place he would love to visit again soon.
“Hao is an amazing volunteer! I am always impressed by his commitment and his easy-going nature,” says Jesse Maack, our Program & Exhibit Assistant.
Thanks so very much for all that you do, Hao!
