In The Humbling of Thor, creator Casey Schissler steps into the role of The Skáld (The Bard) to recount the tale of Elli the All-Wise.
In this original tale, Elli is recruited by Odin the All-Father to teach a lesson to an out of control Thor. Defeating the mighty Thor is no easy task, so Elli seeks the help of Loki the Trickster to help her entrap Thor. But first, Elli must embark on an epic journey to face her personal demons, in order to gather the strength to confront Thor in a contest of wits and power.
The Humbling of Thor engages audiences with mythic storytelling, ancient Norse poetry, ancestral singing, and original music. It brings the deep wisdom of Norse philosophy into the modern world, shining the perspective of these ancestors upon the struggles of modern society.
Meet your performer:
Casey Schissler is an artist, musician, composer, actress, and playwright based out of her hometown of Portland, Oregon. Her musical work encompasses styles ranging from opera to ancestral singing and has taken her as far as Carnegie Hall.
Casey places a particular emphasis on the study and embodiment of indigenous and traditional storytelling traditions, noting how the lack of myth and cultural history in the present-day United States has contributed to a culture of rootlessness, isolation, and lack of purpose.
