In the spring, making flower crowns is a joyous way to celebrate the return of life to the world after a long cold winter, but in the fall, they help us celebrate nature's bounteous fertility! In this class you'll learn how to make the traditional Scandinavian-style flower crown, with a base of interwoven fresh green birch branches. With a variety of colorful flowers, leaves and berries to choose from, the exact style of the crown you make is up to you and your imagination! In addition to birch branches and flowers, wire cutters and pruning shears will be provided and shared among participants. If you have your own wire cutters or pruning shears and wish to bring them, feel free to do so.

Meet your instructor, Christine Beaulieu:

Christine Beaulieu has been making flower crowns with great joy since her early childhood, when they were part of her school's annual May Day celebrations. Christine's Danish heritage brought her into the Nordic Northwest community shortly after she came to Portland for college, and one of her favorite ways of being involved in the Nordic community here has been growing the Flower Area at the Oregon Midsummer Festival, with a personal mission of making sure every guest who attends and wants to make a flower crown is able to do so.
